Pioneering Achievement: Our first Alumni Roundtable Session

Last week, Studentize proudly hosted its first-ever Alumni Roundtable Session at Emirates International School, Jumeirah (EISJ) in Dubai. The event featured alumni from prestigious universities across the UK, US, and Canada, bringing valuable insights and advice to the Year 13 students.

The roundtable format allowed students to engage in candid conversations about the application process, scholarships, career prospects, and life at some of the world’s top universities.

Alumni from top Universties including Harvard, Imperial, Boston, Syracuse, UBC, Mcgill and Warwick shared their knowledge.

1. UK Session

In the UK session, alumni from Imperial College London, Warwick Engineering, and Warwick Business School (WBS) shared their experiences and walked students through the key stages of the UK application process:

  • Alumni emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines and planning ahead.

  • Personal Statements & Teacher Recommendations:
  • Students gained tips on how to craft authentic personal statements that stand out.

  • Firm & Insurance Choices:

  • Career Prospects:
  • Alumni discussed the diverse career opportunities available in fields like Engineering, Computer Science, and Medicine, offering a glimpse into life after university.

2. USA/Canada Session

In the US/Canada session, alumni from Harvard, Boston University, UBC, Syracuse, and McGill delved into the unique aspects of applying to universities in North America:

  • Common App Essay:
  • Alumni offered strategies on how to write compelling essays that reflect personal growth and academic ambition.

  • Predicted Grades:
  • The importance of predicted grades, especially for students in the IB program, was highlighted, with a focus on balancing academics with application tasks.

  • Scholarships:
  • A standout moment was when a UBC alumnus shared their experience of securing a full-ride merit-based scholarship, inspiring students to aim high and explore all funding opportunities.

  • Managing Deadlines & Standardized Tests:
  • Alumni stressed the importance of time management, sharing practical advice on balancing SAT/ACT prep, essay writing, and school commitments.
